Seven steps to get to know San Lorenzo, one for each hamlet: Prato, Prusa, Glolo, Berghi, Pergnano, Senaso, and Dolaso. Seven hamlets that together from a village but which, in the past, had their own separate identities: each with its own church, its own mountain pastures, its own cooperative dairy, its own patron saint's festival.
Even today, they retain their own distinct character. In addition to the "magnificent seven", they are also the hamlets of Moline and Deggia, still separated from the main village. In the past, this is where the schools, taverns, sawmills and flour mills were. Today you are more likely to encounter pilgrims hiking the San Vili and Frassati trails, slow travellers in search of silence, scenery, and spirituality.
And accompanying us wherever we go is the distinctive scent of ciuìga, the unique sausage made with pork and white turnips. Born in hard times, when nothing was wasted, today it is a much-loved speciality and an embodiment of our ability to turn alpine simplicity into something special.
But the true beauty of San Lorenzo lies not in its walls or its rooftops, it lives in our community, in the people who call these houses home. Whose hands have worked the land for centuries, the artisans and farmers who use their skills patiently. And, above all, it lives in those who welcome you with a smile, as if you were part of the family.
