The women of the village meet to chat and share memories on the benches, village life going on quietly around them: children play in the street, someone wanders to the grocery store, others head towards the church. Or rather, towards the churches.
Because in Dorsino we have two, both dedicated to Saint George, the patron saint of the village. One looks to the present, the other reflects the past. The old one dates back to the 1200s, built in a light stone and home to precious frescoes by Cristoforo II Baschenis, the Bergamo painter who left his mark in many chapels in the area. Crossing the square, you take the Via dei Ponti, Bridge Street, which for us is more than a road: it is a link with the past.
The bridges connect the street directly to the farmyard let the cart loaded with hay pass through, pulled by animals. In Dorsino every family has its own bridge: the Sabatini, the Miri, the Batài, the Doreghini. So much history in such a small space. Then August arrives, and with it Polenta sota i ponti, "polenta beneath the bridges", Dorsino’s village festival. The square comes alive with sounds, sights, and scents.
Tables are lined up beneath the stars, the air is filled with laughter and music, and the traditional local dishes are prepared with care. Children improvise as waiters, young people dress the village for the celebration, and men and women help out in the kitchen. During those days, Dorsino is more itself than ever: simple, welcoming, alive. It is a village that knows how to come together, to joyfully celebrate its roots.
