San Lorenzo Dorsino is home to some of Italy's Most Beautiful Villages, in the form of Dorsino, Andogno, and Tavodo, with their cobbled streets, carefully tended gardens, stone fountains, and quiet squares, surrounded by ancient stone and wooden houses, like Casa Martinoni, Casa Mazoleti, and Casa Moscati. They are the embodiment of classic Trentino architecture, an important part of our shared heritage.
Large stone houses which were home to both people and their animals. But our hamlets are also home to great masterpieces of art: the churches of Dorsino and San Lorenzo in Banale contain wonderful frescoes by the Baschenis.
They were itinerant painters from the Bergamo area who between the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries left a legacy of vivid, surprising frescoes. They are known as the 'Bible of the Poor' poor because they were used to teach Bible stories to the poor and the illiterate.
When you visit our hamlets, make sure you make time to step inside our humble churches or knock on the door of the ancient farmhouses. Rejoice in the beauty of our home which has endured through the centuries.
