In San Lorenzo in Banale, autumn smells of Ciuìga.
It all began in the early 2000s, when our sausage with white turnips won over the Salone del Gusto in Turin and obtained Slow Food recognition. Someone in the village said: Why not dedicate a festival to it?
So, in November 2002, the first Ciuìga Festival was born: a festival drenched by rain, but blessed with good fortune. Since then, we haven't stopped.
Today, the festival is the most eagerly awaited event, one that unites and involves the whole community. In the days leading up to it, the village is transformed: volunteers get to work, painting, decorating, preparing decorations and reopening old cellars. It is a great team effort that unites generations and reveals the soul of the village, ready to welcome visitors from outside.
When the festival begins, the streets are filled with scents and colours. The stalls of artisans and farmers display their products, the inns serve steaming dishes of Ciuìga and the restaurants offer special menus. In the vòlt, volunteers from the associations welcome visitors with sincere smiles and heartfelt recipes, prepared with local ingredients and lots of enthusiasm.
And as the notes of mountain bands and choirs echo among the stone houses, you realise that the Ciuìga Festival is not just a celebration of taste: it is the living heart of our community, which comes together every year to share its most delicious history.
