Summer is almost over, and with it the hustle and bustle. It is in this moment of stillness that San Lorenzo Dorsino reveals itself in its most intimate form: woods ablaze with colour, mountain refuges still ready to welcome you, villages that once again tell their stories in silence. An autumn to savour slowly, one step at a time. Here are eight good reasons to experience it here.
1. STROLL THROUGH OUR VILLAGES GUIDED BY OUR GREETERS
The best way to get to know a place is to hear about it from those who live there. Our Greeters – local residents who share their time and passion – will guide you through the streets of the villages of San Lorenzo in Banale and Dorsino, revealing anecdotes, traditions and hidden corners you’d be unlikely to discover on your own. More than just a walk, it’s an encounter.
2. REDISCOVERING THE MOUNTAINS AT A DIFFERENT PACE
Once the summer season is over, the mountains breathe a sigh of relief. The trails empty out, the air turns crisp, and the mountain huts still await us, ready to warm us with a hot meal and a welcome that feels just like home. It’s the perfect time to walk at a leisurely pace, enjoying the silence and the views that autumn has to offer.
3. ADMIRE THE AUTUMN COLOURS OF THE WOODS AND THE LITTLE HOUSE IN MOLINE
When the beech and larch trees blaze with red, orange and gold, our woods become a spectacle to be savoured step by step. In the tranquil village of Moline, there is a house that seems to wear autumn: we call it the ‘little house of foliage’, a tiny marvel that changes its colours with the seasons. Every year we find it looking different, always beautiful and posing for the camera. Seeing it in person is, in itself, a good reason to come all the way out here.
4. EMBRACE THE COLOURS OF LAKE NEMBIA
Lake Nembia is beautiful in every season, but in autumn it becomes magical: the emerald green of the water blends with the warm reflections of the surrounding woods, in an embrace of colours that makes every step worthwhile. A gentle, easy walk, suitable for everyone, perfect for stopping and taking in the views.

5. MUSHROOMING IN THE WOODS
Autumn is also mushroom season. In the woods of San Lorenzo Dorsino, amidst colourful leaves and the scent of damp earth, going in search of mushrooms is a special way to experience the mountains. It’s an experience to be enjoyed with respect, picking only what you recognise. Remember, however, that a permit is required under provincial regulations to pick mushrooms. Find out what you need to know before you set off and then, basket in hand, let the scents of our woods guide you.
6. CLIMBING AT THE ‘FORGOTTEN CLIFF’
For those who love to take on the rock, autumn offers something special at the Falesia Dimenticata: a low, gentle sun that warms the rock face and accompanies every hold. This is where the climbing festival takes place, an event that brings together enthusiasts from far and wide to share the thrill of vertical climbing, from 26 to 27 September.
7. POP IN TO SEE OUR FARMERS FOR THE SEASON’S FRUIT
Here, autumn can also be savoured through locally sourced produce: simply pop in to see our farmers to take home the genuine fruits of the season – those that taste of the earth and the perfect time of year. Freshly harvested potatoes, fragrant apples still warm from the sun, sweet and juicy grapes, and turnips that will be used to make Ciuìga: a simple and authentic way to experience autumn in San Lorenzo Dorsino first-hand.
8. GRAND FINALE: THE CIUÌGA FESTIVAL
To round off the autumn season in style, from 30 October to 1 November, comes the Ciuìga Festival, the beating heart of our tradition. A unique cured meat, a Slow Food Presidium, made with pork and white turnips, to be savoured in restaurants or taverns along the village streets amidst music, warmth and conviviality. The truest way to bid farewell to autumn in San Lorenzo Dorsino: at the table, together.
