Here, where Lake Carera once stood, there is now an extraordinary place: the Fiavé Archaeological Nature Park, a nature reserve covering over 12,000 square metres where nature and history intertwine in a thousand-year-old story.
Amongst the reeds and pools of water, the oldest piles of prehistoric stilt houses in the Alps emerge, silent witnesses to a Bronze Age village.
A walkway suspended over the water leads you to the heart of the park, amongst the five life-size reconstructed stilt houses. Three of them are open to visitors and are complete with tools, furnishings and work instruments recreated thanks to archaeological research. Entering these dwellings, you really feel as if you can experience the daily life of those who lived here 4,000 years ago.
As you walk among the pile dwellings, you can almost sense the fire burning and hear the voices of those who lived here. Illustrative panels, interactive installations and life-size animals recount the daily life of the men and women of prehistory.
During the months when it is open, the park and the nearby Fiavé Pile Dwelling Museum offer a wealth of experiences for children: guided tours, educational workshops, archaeological demonstration days, meetings with archaeologists, animated readings, exhibitions and shows.
An immersive experience that takes you on a journey through time and allows you to experience prehistory first-hand.
