Rango joins San Lorenzo in Banale among Italy's most beautiful villages. If mountains are our heart, Rango's is farming.
Nestled on the Bleggio plateau, the village has remained intact over time: the houses, leaning against each other, are connected by covered passageways that once offered shelter to merchants, pilgrims and shepherds with their flocks.
Today, these spaces are lit up with lights, scents and voices during the Christmas markets, among the most beautiful in Trentino. Not the usual wooden huts, but an entire village that is transformed into a living nativity scene.
Not far away is Balbido, the painted village. Its streets are home to over fifty murals that colour the facades of the houses and tell of ancient crafts, local stories and legends, such as that of the mischievous witches who threw stones at the carts of farmers returning from Val Marcia.
At the entrance to the village, an imposing presence reminds us of them: the largest witch in the world, almost 11 metres tall, made of wood and bamboo canes, which has entered the Guinness Book of Records. It is said that stroking her brings good luck.
